Soil Water Express is a simple and cost-effective means of characterising soil profiles for their Plant Available Water Capacity and Plant Available Water, without specialised equipment and expertise.
Soil Characteristics table
The Soil Characteristics table is where you enter your soil profile.
  • Enter the depth to the bottom of each sampling depth.
  • If you have Bulk Density figures, enter them - otherwise the system will automatically estimate Bulk Density for you.
  • Enter the Rock content (estimated % by volume) for each sampling depth.
  • Enter the Sand and Clay (% by weight) values from the particle size analysis.
  • Enter Chemistry Analysis Data, converting for differences in units if necessary.
  • Enter a Crop Factor value of 1.0 for wheat, or other values derived through local experience for other crops.
  • Enter a Root Taper modifier value if appropriate.
Device Soil Water Profile table
The Device Soil Water Profile table is where you calibrate the system for your site, and enter any soil water readings.
  • In the Calibration Readings section, enter DUL and CLL raw readings to automatically calibrate the system for your site.
  • In the Plant Available Water section, enter the Current Soil Water Raw Reading to estimate currently available soil water.
Please note: Valid output is ONLY possible by using the procedure recommended in the accompanying notes
